How to get AFL Grand Final tickets?

Seeing as it's so hard to get tickets to the AFL grand final why isn't the game a complete sell out?

  • I think the capacity of the MCG is close to 110000 if im correct but the grand final never has that many people.

    Capacity is 98,002. The Cats/Pies prelim last year was packed to the rafters. The trouble is about 60% of the tickets are given to Corporates, TV companies, politicians, politicians children, MCC members, MCC members illegitimate spawn, MCC members' illegitimate spawn's girlfriends, non-participating clubs, travel companies, hotel chains.... and the list goes on for another hour until eventually we get .... Oh yes ... the fans. Ha? Guess we should have a few of them say what old chap? It IS a sellout. The reason the stand won't be full is a large number of those people getting tickets aren't remotely interested in footy other than a chance to get plastered at some corporate sponsor's expense and they won't even bother turning up!!!

Agree with me old china plate Quandry, well said RC, your right on the ball there, 11,000 and 15,000 for both teams put together is a joke. 26,000 members, plus a fair few public would be supporters or members who missed out on the ballot, i reckon it should be more like 70/80% members and supporters if they can fill that many, geelong and the hawks should be able to muster up around 70,000 members if those clubs do have fair dinkum members and not just cats and dogs signed up by wealthy members to make out they have more members, hawthorn surely don't have the amount they claim to have.

Because in order for someone from the general public to purchase one of the remaining tickets, you need to spend about $2000. I wish the grand final wasn't such a corporate event!

Because the AFl never know how many members of the Melbourne Cricket club who have allocated seats will attend the game and therefore the Afl can't sell those allocated seats.

Most of the MCC members must have been full, attendance was just over 100,000. If you think it is bad for ticket price and all the corporate business, try the Super Bowl here in the USA. Tickets for the top row go for over $1000, but only once has the game not been a sellout, the first one in 1967.

Ï think its because the MCG/AFL members who have an allocated seat do not turn up or notify that they do not require a seat. I was lucky enough to go a grand final a few years ago because I ''knew" somebody that could get me a ticket. It was heartbreaking to see kids outside the MCG with cardboard signs pleading for someone to sell/give them a ticket. We got inside and half way through the game the members stand was still half empty. Terrible. Terrible. MCG should make all people who are members confirm their seats. If they do not confirm them and they have not arrived by quarter time the seats should be given to the public. Harsh, but it's silly to have so many seats free when there are sooooooo many people just dying to get in. I'm talking about die hard fans that go to their games every week that miss out.
