How can I concentrate on my studies?

I was really gud at studies b4 pursuing graduation. But aftr gettin into a good university, I stopped using my brain. Now I can't stay focused or even concentrate for 5 min straight. What do I do to regain that intellectual level? How shld I proceed?

  • I was really gud at studies sum 4 yrs back, bt sumthin chngd n I started getting lazy and didnt bother to concentrate on anything resulting in decrease in my GPA.....Now, when even when I try my best I can't stay focused for more than 5 min....I used to have photographic memory(sort of). I used to remember answers by making a story out of them and when I spoke of it, I used to have an image of those statements in my mind. How is it possible to lose such a technique gained over 12 yrs of studies and hard work in jst 4 yrs? Now even when I try, I can't do this....I want to restore myself to the same level coz I feel pathetic abt my current state. I hav tried various things bt nothin works. Maybe I am nt organized/strategic. How should I approach? can someone guide me?

The ability to learn is intimately linked with motivation. The stronger the motivation the more likely you are to retain material. You will never forget that you should not step out into moving traffic because the motivation to stay alive is very strong. You also will remember great details about things associated with the hobbies you like, or the sports you watch because there is a motivation driving that learning. Step back, figure out what you want out of school. Why are you there? What will it get you? Will succeeding in school allow you to accomplish something that you really wish to accomplish. Before college your motivation, your final destination, was to get in to college. Now you are in college, what is your new final destination. Without that final destination there is no motivation and thus no learning.

Keep practicing , keep trying and keep trying to understand them....the ability will come back...believe me...its in hibernation...and you are trying to wake it up...that's why you feel that way...it will come back...believe me..

If you are from India, you sound like a IITian. Normally people have to work really hard for getting into prestigious institutions. They are heavily motivated. But when they get there, they seem to think that half of the effort is done, and become non-serious. They are so exhausted studying all their lives that when achieve success, it has a negative impact on them. The main reason why this kind of thing takes shape is because all our lives we studied because we had interest. We never forced ourselves. Normally when we come to college the work load, the examination schedule, assignments, and projects - a scheme that is centred more toward getting good marks rather than stressing on cognitive development and critical thinking exhausts us. We lose interest and we stop studying. What you can do to get back on track is not think about the past but concentrate on the present studies and try get back you interest in the subject, and study for the fun and the joy for it. The truth is that, if you don't want to study, no one can force you. No one.
