Keep in mind also that the ski season is well and truely underway. By the time you get here it could be nearly over till next year. Although snow is sometimes still around in December, the true ski season is generally over by late September. Also, in some ski areas, you may be required to commit to a fixed term rent. This is not standard in NZ, as usually you just pay weekly and are required to give 3 weeks notice. But fixed term can be offered and often is in areas which depend on seasonal occupancy. Just mentioned this, as you may find the cheaper places already taken. On the other hand, if this is the case, you may find that someone is desperate to sub-lease to you so that they can get out of a lease.

The minimum wage is $13. Rent is paid weekly or fortnightly. You'll find affordable apartments to rent if you guys take your time to look for one so don't rush or anything. Otherwise you'll think everything is too expensive here. And $200 per week is somewhat the average for rentals. Just be aware that rentals can be ridiculously expensive so do loads of research before making any decisions. I think you guys will be fine since you'll both be working full time EDIT: I haven't but i'm moving out soon, i've done all my research and i have friends who have left home and told me everything i needed and wanted to know not to mention, we've talked about 'living away from home' at school so geez wabby. Hahaha. You're that clueless
