  • Answer:

Go to Google and search for pictures under that term: "österreich-ungarn" or "österreich-ungarn monarchie" You find a few maps from the Austrian-Hungary monarchy and I think these cities belonged to that. I'm from Austria and I can tell you that Hungary and Austria were ruled together around 1900. Your grandparents spoke German, because we Austrians speak German, it's our language. About the history, well. Austria and Hungary (containing parts that now belong to German and all the other countries around Austria) were ruled by an austrian emperor, so it was one huge country and after the first World War, in which Austria-Hungary lost, it got split up, every other country taking a piece and leaving little Austria and Hungary, who decided to become separate republics, without all the monarchy and the kings. And to this day you are actually not allowed to have some sort of title, like lord, as an Austrian.

Do you mean Beekes, Hungary and Bangor, Slovenia? (Also spelled Bekes.) Can't find anything except the Olympic Games where held in those areas in 1900. Probably the affects of two WW's and the collapse of all the Kingdoms of Europe falling does not help matters.
