What is the connection between energy consumption, CO2 emissions, and living standards?

  • How do energy consumption levels compare between developed countries and undeveloped countries? What about living standards?

  • Answer:

Again, it depends on where you live. In US, higher energy consumption and greater CO2 emissions are considered a higher standard of living. I feel my higher mileage vehicle gets me from A to B just as well as a vehicle that gets 1/5th the gas mileage. My well insulated house keeps me just as warm using much less electricity or oil than someone with a drafty house. Look at Europe- a higher standard of living than us and they use much less CO2 in their lives.
