Choosing the best set of keywords?

Analyzing a set of keywords for a particular country is quite easy (as Google provides the data) but how can one perform an analysis for a set of keywords for a certain city or state and find a bunch of good keywords for that particular city or state?

  • For example: lets say, I want a bunch of keywords for Sydney. How can I know if there is high search volume and good commercial intention of keywords in that particular region?

  • Answer:

In most cases it's fairly unlikely that people from Melbourne are going to be using much different keywords than people in Sydney, with the exception of localized keywords that are pretty obvious: "pizza places in sydney" vs. "pizza places in Melbourne". But, one of way finding out whether keywords perform in different cities is to run trial adwords campaigns limited to those cities. You can't segment by cities in the Keyword tool, but you can inĀ  AdWords. https://support.google.com/adwords/answer/1722043?hl=en-GB Other than that it's mostly common sense, knowing any local colloquialisms or dialect variants that might apply, etc.
