Answer:
You don't say whether you live in the city, suburbs, or country or how old your kids are, but many children -- and adults -- have lost their connection with nature. Take them to visit local parks and wilderness you've never visited before, and learn about some of the flora and fauna there and what makes it unique. Take them fishing. Camping. Put them in charge of starting a mid-summer garden, and tending to it. Have them learn about the watershed in your area, and how it is managed. Have them explore volunteer opportunities. Nothing like pitching in with other like-minded folks to enrich a person of any age. And check out the link below. This may motivate them to set their sites a bit higher, and will undoubtedly provide you with more ideas for you and your children.

It really depends on the age of your kids. The first step would be to start recycling. Something that is fun to do is go geocaching and pick up trash on your way to finding the geocache. It's something you can do as a family, it's so much fun, AND you are helping clean up the Earth!

How about something that could help you. For instance taking 5 minute showers, having an hour a day of using no electricity. Recycle. Making a bird feeder and picking up trash around the neighborhood. Planting a garden. Riding bikes or walking instead of getting a ride

Have them start a compost heap.

clean up parks and recreational areas. They might even get some money out of it by picking up pop/beer cans.

Plant a veggie garden, take them to farmers markets and show them how amazing real produce taste. Learn how much energy you usually use in the summer months and have them help you find ways to cut back. Put power strips on the tv, dvd, and game system so you can stop standby power. Plant a tree on the sunny side of the house. Open the windows in the morning and evening when it's cool outside. A fun thing to make is a worm bin, they can feed all the kitchen scraps to their new pets to make great compost.

Well the most important thing during summers is Water Conservation. Fresh water levels in many parts of the world have already dropped alarmingly. Water shortage is a growing concern everywhere. Especially, during the summers the amount of water consumption in every household is expected to go up. So, we all need to make a conscious decision to save water at home and also spread the awareness among the people we know. Here are some tips on how to save water that could be extremely helpful to save water during the summer - http://www.bewaterwise.com/tips01.html . Let your kids create posters and pamphlets on them and distribute it in the neighborhood. Creating posters will not only keep then busy, but they would also help the environment in a big way. In turn they will also become more water conscious! Hope the idea helps!

well they could start a home initiave plan, starting with your house they can find ways of saving energy. Did you know that 20% of your electricty cost comes from electronics that are turned OFF. this happens becuase although they may be off they are still plugged in a drawing power, TV's, printers, coffee makers, and computer screens are some of the worst culprits. your kids could find a way to stop that waste of energy and then share it with their friends and your neighbors. depending on how old they are they could volunteer with your local park services and help to preserve green space. but the best way would be to get them out of the house, off the computers and into the sun, its great for the envrionment and its great for their health. Have a fun summer!

Why would you want to instill such bad habits on your children?! Instead, plop them down in front of a TV, turn it on Fox News, and give them a good daily diet of Glenn Beck and Bill O'Riley. I am still young and I haven't gotten caught up in all of the liberal media and propaganda yet and I don't plan on it. I have been raised a conservative republican and will remain that way 'til I die. PS: You might not want to install those energy efficient light bulbs because when they break you have to evacuate the room and go through an advanced process to clean everything up because they have harmful chemicals inside that could kill you. Hope this helps!
