How can we bring solar power energy to our streets?

Energy usage, Is more energy used to bring a house up to a temperature than it is to maintain that temperature?

• Is it better, power wise, to keep the furnace at a higher temp. or turn it down during the day and warm it up later.? Is that the same for a hot tub?

  I think it will all depend on how well insulated it is to begin with. In a typical well insulated home keeping a constant temp is more efficient since it doesn't have to re-heat cooled walls, floors and windows etc...warming up uses the most energy. Hot tubs...same thing applies.
