Philosophically speaking, PI4, you are dead on. Even from the practical sense, I think they're just "preaching to the choir". I wonder just how many converts or fence-sitters there will be? I wonder what the difference between the gross proceeds from ticket sales and advertisement, and the net proceeds going to environmental charities. In a true charitable event, those figures would be close to the same.

No, I do not support it. Change has to come from informed decisions, and the decision to do what a person can on their own. Making the changes something that the government takes charge of, or industry only leads to more waste, higher prices, and more abuse than what we had before. The ONLY company that I know of that has tried to make something worth while of waste management is the company by that name.

Well, I always have a bit of a chuckle when Bob Geldof meets some "world leader" about one thing or another and I think to myself that it can't hurt at all to send the message out and influence thousands of young minds. I think the message needs to be refined so that individuals can see that their effort makes some actual basic positive difference to the tiny little patch of space that they can have an influence on.... in the appreciation that if 4 billion of us take that approach the "big issues" will simply fade away. A little philosophical I know.. but we don't really need to change the world, we only need to get into tune with the tiny little part of it that relates to you and I don't think it is by accident that even when we die, we nourish the earth..... just a little part of it. So let them have their concerts, if that is the best they can do. Hey Bydie, my legs are very tired today from all that bicycling I have been doing.. and perhaps that's why I am being complacent ? ... nah... It's because I am selfish and I really like a good rock concert every now and again!

May be you are right.

Yes I do.I think that these concerts will make more people aware than anything else. And what's even more important, young people, cause they are the ones to worship and admire and do everything that their favorite star is doing. And at the end of the day,I really don't care about somebodies motives when doing a good thing,I 'm just glad s/he's doing something to help better a bad situation! So I'm all for those concerts(like I supported Live 8 two years back)...and even if it doesn't help change much(I doubt that everyone who'll see the concert will start recycling or change his car with a environmentally friendly hybrid) if one person starts thinking differently because of them,it was a success in my eyes...

Absolutely. It is bringing awareness to an issue that is attempted to be silenced by the Right wing noise machine.

we cannot have enough exposure to raise Environmental awareness . Many people will be affected Al Gore Mentions 2 billion that is a lot more than the crowds that Jesus pulled You may not agree with Al Gores aproach in his movie ,but the results are all positive Many people agree that because of that they have become aware that there even is a problem ,and decided to investigate further or even change their lifestyle a bit this is all good, And these concerts will do a lot more, and world wide Bringing Global warming into the focus of the masses . The effects of Woodstock rippled on for decades changing atitudes that persist with many people who are in power today . A changed mentality with the youth today means changes with control tomorrow At least in theory

byderule

that is probably the only way ,they can get some people to listen.

I agree, Al Gore needs to stop shoving his ideas on everyone else, when the facts are not there. He went a step further than his movie when he decided to get music stars in on it. These stars are idolized by many adolescents and will follow this movement/campaign just because some of their favorite singers support it. Who made stars smart and actually informed on real life issues??? They are definetly not the people I turn to when I look for information or political advise. THE WORLD NEEDS TO STOP LOOKING AT POPULAR PEOPLE FOR LEGISLATION AND POLITICS, THINK FOR YOUR SELF!
