A better analogy of the situation would be if there was a growing fire underneath the stadium and the warmers were telling everyone they needed to get out quick before it spread - the sceptics were running around saying there was no problem and there had never been a fire in the stadium before so theoretical predictions could be ignored and everyone could get on with watching the game. Sheesh - just using basic risk management analysis shows who it is wiser to believe. If you've got sceptics and warmers barraging you with rhetoric and science, that you can't judge between, you are in exactly the same position as the punk in "Dirty Harry". 'global warming theory' includes the feedbacks predicted by the Gaia hypothesis. the big problem is speed. unbalance the earth system too fast, and you will have a period of upheaval while the corrections take place. this might be 10 or 100 thousand years, the blink of an eye in geological terms, but plenty of time to seriously affect human civilisation.

There is one easy way to tell what is true and what is false on this subject. Look at the dialogue from both the proponents (supporters) of AGW or GCC and the skeptics who point out that there is no reason to panic. I feel justified in making a clear comparison that some might not like because it comes way to close to the truth they will never admit to. Consider a large crowded auditorium or theater. Someone takes a trashcan or container and fills it with paper or other flammable materials and sets it on fire. Then when the smoke becomes apparent the perpetrator and his associates start yelling fire and position themselves where they can steal wallets, jewelry and purses from the panicked crowd trying to get to safety. Then consider the skeptics as concerned citizens who have survived similar situation in the past and know what is happening as telling to people to calm down and proceed orderly to the exits and to protect their valuables from the thieves who organized the panic to profit from it. Global warming and climate change are very much like this in that there is a political movement hoping for power like Hitler and Stalin trying to panic the lessor educated into voting for them to get control of the worlds governments. How to stop this political power grab, educate yourself on the issues from the writings of concerned citizens that see what is happening. Then never vote for any politician who supports the concept of climate change.
