Why do people eat turkey for Thanksgiving?

    Humans eat meat in general because nature made us omnivorous and it is culturally acceptable. I don't think we are mean to eat animals any more than a tiger is mean to eat animals-- I worry more about how humanely they are raised and slaughtered. Turkey became a tradition after WWII when the mostly North Eastern cuisine was introduced to soldiers all over the country in the army. A famous magazine featured a turkey dinner for T-day one year and it became tradition. You have every right to be a vegetarian, but please do not get on a soap box or put on a pout and ruin everyone else's Thanksgiving... How would you like it if a fruitarian came to dinner and spent the day pouting and arguing with you on a holiday over the blatent murder of all the plants. Dog would be socially acceptable in some cultures... you are right, meat is meat.

What kind of a vegetarian are you? I ask because I know there are some vegetarians who do eat some meat, mostly poultry or fish (or both). But nothing red or mammalian. My 7th grade science teacher was a vegetarian, she didn't eat any red meat and about the only meat she would eat was fish. Eating meat does not mean youb do not love animals, nor is it actually cruelty to animals to eat them
