Will my singing voice come back?

During my pregnancy I lost my singing voice, my son is 5 months old now and it still hasn't come back! Ideas?

  • I love to sing and write songs but since my pregnancy my voice can't hit the high notes, it just goes out or goes into the wrong key. It's been 5 months and hasn't gotten ...show more

I was thinking the same thing about the support.....you know, that maybe you need to do some tummy exercises....? Just something to think about, when on an ensemble tour I started jogging in the morning with one of the other gals and I lost like 4 or more notes of my upper register from the breathing, ok, gasping! lol! Also, I heard from my voice teacher that menstruating women used to take brakes from singing opera because of the effect on their voices. I can def tell a difference in my voice due to this....My voice becomes chauky and not as flexable and in pitch.....hormones maybe? Which could still be your case so near a pregnancy?

Well, did you keep up with your practicing during the pregnancy? If not, then you just need to work your voice back to its previous state by practicing. Pregnancy can (and often does) have an effect on the voice, though. A friend of mine (a fellow voice major) had her third child in May of 2006, and you could tell a definite difference in her voice. Her voice developed a much more dark tone, which was a great source of annoyance for her. I've never heard of it affecting one's vocal range, but I do know it can definitely mess with you.

If you sing in a church choir or similar community group, talk to the choral master; also try contacting a professor of music at your nearest quality university or community college. They may have had students or know other women singers with similar problems

I say drink some tea and water. Not too much but just enough it helps along with breathing and just practice simple notes everyday. Start from low then slowly move up to high but drink tea. It works when i lose my voice.

blame the loss of your music career on your child and because of this overpressure them to be a pro musician themself, therefore ruining their childhood... just an idea
