What was the first Thanksgiving like?

My first Thanksgiving ever! What do I need?

  • I am doing thanksgiving for a friend who will be away from her family for the first time this year. Being Australian I have never even been to a Thanksgiving let alone organised one! ...show more

  • Answer:

A lot of people watch the Dallas Cowboys play football on Thanksgiving. Also, I highly doubt that you will need to make all of this by yourself. Your friend would probably be happy to help you cook dinner. Cooking and baking is one of the funnest parts! Just make sure you start thawing your turkey ahead several days ahead of time. You should be fine, and even if it all goes south, it will be a Thanksgiving to remember. Have fun. :)

I would suggest some sort of sweet potatoes (roasted, mashed, or candied), rolls, and apple pie be added to that list. Lots of people like to add some sort of winter squash dish as well (like roasted acorn squash), green bean casserole, and/or honey baked ham. I know ham and sweet potatoes are my favorite parts of the meal. How about asking your friend what her favorite Thanksgiving foods and traditions are? The best thing you can do for Thanksgiving is to have lots of food and lots of people to eat it! A small Thanksgiving always seems kind of weird to me and lots of food goes to waste that way (unless you eat the same food for a week).

The only thing missing is the stuffing. Otherwise, you have all of the basics and plenty to do. Happy Thanksgiving.
