Acid jazz is a phrase that was the first jazz term to be coined by a disk jockey rather than a musician,more of a marketing phenomenon than a coherent musical style i.e.the commercialisation of a revival movement inspired by listening to records rather than live music of the late 60's and early 70's jazz/funk, most of the creative musicians who have flirted with this music have found it too restricting and have moved on.
