Whats a good way to become a famous jazz singer?

First thing you need is supportive parents. If they are then here's a start: Orlando is not a small city. There is a lot of jazz going on that you just don't know about and plenty of enevts that you can attend or even become a part of. Network, network, network. Go to every jazz jam session that allows underage persons to attend and sit in. Meet every jazz musician and jazz vocalist that you can. Go to jazz performances and talk to the musicians. Ask them whats around town that you can be a part of. Volunteer for a local jazz society or club. Check this site out. It is your local straight-ahead jazz radio station which is located at the University Of Central Florida WUCF FM 89.9 http://wucf.ucf.edu/ Here is the Central Florida Jazz Society's Jazz calendar page. There are plenty of events listed that you could attend. They are in restaurants and many run very early hours, from 5 or 6 PM to 10 PM or earlier. There should be a school for the performing arts there. Audition as a vocalist and get yourself transferred to it, once you pass the audition. I live in San Diego and there are tons of young jazz musicians in schools here, and not just performing arts schools but regular every day high schools. Seek them out in your area. Talk to the music department head of the jazz band at your high school. ( if there is a jazz band) If there isn't, find a way to transfer to a school that does have a jazz band. Make sure you learn music so you understand jazz. Don't be the vocalist who can't play an instrument. You need to gain the respect of jazz instrumentalists and that takes having some musical knowledge under your belt. Cut a CD of your own, and get invited to be a guest vocalist on other jazz artist's CDs. Open a band myspace page and a facebook page and put your music up on those sites. Open an account on sound click, CD baby and anywhere else you can. Get your voice and face known while you are still very young. Learn to be a salesman. The product is you. Marketing is EVERYTHING! Never expect to become the next Diana Krall or to become rich. I know hundreds of very deserving jazz musicians and vocalists who have never made it big.
