Why don't more teens listen to classical music?

The majority of kids never hear classical music. It becomes a "cool" thing to like rock music so most teens follow the fad. When a few teens get a chance to hear classical music, some will enjoy it, maybe play in a marching band or school orchestra. Nancy

In a childs early years parents are encouraged to play them classical music then as they grow up they have no choice they have to listen to what their parents play. So once they are teenagers its time for them to explore different things to find out what they do like, its a process. And frankly classical is basically last on the list because they already have a feel for the genre. Actually i would suggest you try listening to more of a variety in music. Its not like i like Lady Gaga but she is extremely talented. Dont kick it til you try it. :)

Aaah don't judge all us teens. Sure a vast majority prefer that kind of music but I have a lot of friends who love classical (including myself). I've found that the ones who like classical often also like jazz and not-too-heavy pop/rock. Could just be that many aren't exposed to good classical music - probably the stuff their primary school teachers have shown them is pathetic. My current favourites are Chopin, Mozart and Vivaldi off the top of my head. Classical music ftw.

It's complex music, takes a higher attention span, and it's unfamiliar to most people

yep lady gaga is pretty talented, at vocals and good pianist... though she displays a lot of satanic symbolism and illuminati propaganda (if you're into conspiracies). In my opinion, she really just another puppet of the corporate industry. besides that i respect her talents.

An average teen think in terms of what is popular among others teens. They want to be accepted by their peers. I think that is okay. It is how things are now, but, not all teens are the same. I couldn't stand the group Kiss when I was in junior high. I thought they were disgusting to be honest. I liked music where you could actually hear the words and recognize them. I think it is great that you love classical music at the your age. Listen to it as you like but, remember there is all kinds of good music out there. I like Jazz besides Classical but a certain kind of Jazz music. It off sets my interest in Classical and that helps me quit a bit. I also like Sibelius too.

Mainstream bs. Popular kid likes music, they're friends like it, then people who want to be like them decide to like it. I personally like metal but because i like the feelin I get from the drums, the talent of the guitar, the talent in the singing. If you like that music, go ahead, your choice. Don't give in to peer pressure and all that crap. Be yourself and listen to what YOU like. Rock on \m/
