I need help in developing my vibrato and spiccato. Any tips?

Get yourself in front of a mirror right now. First, decide what style of vibrato you are going to learn...will you bend from the elbow (arm vibrato), from the wrist...or only at the finger? I would recommend starting vibrato at the wrist, and doing it in thrid position...the body of the instrument will restrict you from "getting in your own way". WATCH yourself perform the motions, and ask other people to watch you as well. For spiccato, the comment about the balance point is a good one. Keep almost a "riccochet" feel to it so you can use that forward momentum. Remember that if you want speed in your bowing, you should keep the bow as close the string as possible. Height takes up time. For both motions, you have to be relaxed. The tension that frustration will cause will completely derail any efforts you are making. If you get frustrated, you should take a break and go calm down. This will take time to develop, so don't get discouraged. Doing anything correctly will take time, but it's well worth it.

What I figured out the best way to play vibrato is get a tic tac box and shake it by putting it between the thumb and index finger. Keep the hand high when you do vibrato. for spiccato what i figured what works out the most is tilt the bow a little back:\ thats what i do to play spiccato, I dont know if it's proper but it works.
