Why is it bad to sleep with contacts in?

  • I don't do this, but I'm curious to know what would happen if i did....

  • Answer:

They dry out because they are trying to take the moisture that your eye produces to keep it soft. This dries out your eye and deprives it of oxygen. Over time this can seriously damage your eyes.

I've heard you can, but it's probably not a good idea. When I've done it, seems like it would be really stuck to my eye. It would be really hard to move or get out in the morning and my eyes felt really dry. I think you need to give your eyes a break at night.

the moisture in your eye does something to the contacts and then the contacts start to irritate your eye

While you’re awake, your eyes produce tears, washing away germs and allowing oxygen to reach your corneas, the clear parts of the eyes that cover the irises. But when you’re asleep bacteria, fungus and debris can sit there and fester.
