What is a good college for computer programming?

What is it like to study Computer Science in college in India with no prior programming knowledge?

  • Moreover what happens after the initial excitement of getting your favourite A-league institute like the IITs, NITs or BITS Pilani? How does it compare to other courses? Also do the students feel that it is too boring? Do they wish to shift to other courses ?

  • Answer:

I think I am eligible to answer this question. Though, I don't study in the A-degree colleges listed in your question; still I faced the very same challenges that you mentioned. Before I took CSE at BIT Mesra, I did no computer courses in my school nor knew anything about the vast world of programming. So, naturally all hell broke lose on me when I started attending the classes. I couldn't get FOR or WHILE loops.I fared very badly alongside my peers who were already far more knowledgeable in programming. But, I enjoyed it. :) I worked hard to understand it and devoted most of my time. Seniors here were very helpful. Currently, I am doing my 2nd year course in CSE. Recently, I qualified for Facebook Hacker Cup: Round 1(not bad for a person who knew nothing about programming; but it could've been better). So, my suggestion to you would be: don't ever give up! Try googling the problems you face. Participate in lots of programming competitions. Read good books and find good friends who are better than you. Good luck! You will enjoy Computer Science more than anything else. :)
