How to use usability testing?

Would use a 3rd party for usability testing on your website?

  • I am UX Architect and looking to hear from the Quora community on their thoughts about outsourcing usability testing. I dont mean some simple websites. No one needs usability testing or user research for super simple site.  I am talking about an interactive website like a SAAS product, eCommerce, heavy informational sites, etc. Would you (if you owned a tech based business) use a usability testing company to test the user experience of your product on users and if the company provide detailed reports of findings and as well as videos of all the testing sessions? I am looking to start my own boutique usability testing and user research company but want to hear if companies (of if you OWNED a company) would invest in this or would they rather do this in-house to save money. Any explanation as to why or why not would be very helpful. NOTE: This is not an indirect sales pitch. I am legitimately trying to basic market validation. Thanks!

We are hired by some companies to do user testing and there are more companies we are talking to on similar lines. This is happening despite our customers having their own UX teams. When we asked them why us when they have a team of their own; they said a) they want unbiased opinions b) they liked our work samples c) they want to see if it is of any value to work with others d) they have something big coming up and may fall short of bandwidth
