You just answered your own question. Waitressing takes alot of discipline --- taking orders, following orders, organization, deadlines, people skills--- especially if they are not happy. Communication between client and kitchen (supervisors, co-workers), etc. Plus lifting. Smiling when your feet are tired! I have a list of words catagorized by skills given to me by a college employment service. Many state unemployment agencies will help you with resume writing. My copy does not have a website, unfortunately. :( So here are a few as I scan------Management/leadership skills:delegated, handled, hosted, managed, priortized!!!, scheduling Commincation/People skills: clarified, communicated, described, directed, interacted, listened, recommended, observed, resolved, responded, suggested, detected, determined Techinical Skills: adapted, assembled, solved, upgraded Teaching Skills: adapted, advised, clarified, communicated, conducted, coordinated, encouraged, explained, facilitated, guided, individualized, persuaded, trained, tutored-- if you trained any new employees--- mentor is a good one Financial/Data Skills: adjusted, assessed, balanced, calculated/computed, corrected, planned, reduced, retrieved Creative Skills: acted, adapted, created?, entertained, illustrated, solved Helping skills: adapted, advocated, answered, assisted, clarified, expedited, facilitated, familiarized, guided, intervened, prevented, resolved, provided, supplied Organization/Detail Skills: arranged, collected, corrected, executed, inspected, monitored, processed, responded, routed!!!, scheduled, verified Qualities---------Work Environment==fast paced, flexible, variety, team-oriented, supportive, friendly, results-oriented, highly organized, customer-oriented Personality: results-oriented, independent, competitive, quick, goal-oriented Sypmathetic/Supportive: team-oriented, consistent, listens, patient Precise, Reflective, Reserved: accurate, diplomatic!!, systematic, listens, attentive to detail, fact finder Outgoing, Optomistic: Enthusiastic, people-oriented, verbally articulate, energetic and so on, etc. Hope this helps. I know there are a lot of repeats but many skills transfer to many jobs. I am in health care and think I could transfer over to waitressing very well--- many of same skills needed! Also, in business, sales, management-- well, you get the idea. Just don't say you waitressed-- give an example or two of how you handled unusual circumstances and if you got lots of tips, etc.--------what skills did you use (keep it clean people!) to accomplish that. Did you recieve any awards at work???? Best of luck!

A waitressing job IS respectable! Don't try to turn a waitressing job into something its not. I've been managing people for several years and nothing burns me more than dishonesty. Be open, be honest, be transparent. Focus on the fact that as a waitress you have customer service skills and the ability to juggle multiple tasks in a fast moving environment. Those are good skills to have!
