What should I expect at a Job interview?

What should i expect to happen at a 2nd job interview?

  • i had a job interview at jc pennys, and now im going in again to have an interview with the store manager, is it a lot like the first job interview? will they ask me harder questions? ...show more

  • Answer:

second interview is a good thing, so first of all have confidence because they already know they like you, and see potential. they will most likely give more detail about the position, as well as the benefits - if they didnt go over that in the first interview. the questions may be a little harder (all interview questions are tough) i recommend you really listen and understand the questions so you are sure to answer them thoroughly. they will either offer you the position at the end of the interview, or let you know by phone call. if it went well, you may even consider a little thank you note for their time and consideration...sell yourself and good luck!

The good thing...you've made it to the second interview. The great thing will be when you get the job...IF you get the job. In the old days, the second interview was the job clincher. Nowdays, the second interview is the continuation in the weeding out chain. I, and some whom I have known, have been on second interviews lately, and even gotten through job orientation. However, the second interview...in a recession...does NOT mean, automatically, that you get the job. It is a step in the process...because companies are tight on money, and it is an employer's market. Yes, the company may 'like' you; but you will have to 'tighten up' on some of you responses, and do dress to impress. They may throw you a curve or two. Bring another copy of your resume, and a list of your written references...and possibly a few of them along (depending upon the job). Usually, the person who interviewed you the first time will be there, and they will have an employee who will be interviewing you as well. Just rehearse a bit on your answers and enjoy the experience. You may be doing this as well.

Second interviews may have a panel, a different manager or may be an assessment. The only way of preparing is to apply for jobs and thereby do lots of interviews. Some people say swot up on the company and so on, but if you are serious about working for my law firm for example, you'll have done this already. Just be yourself - you'll either get it or you won't. When I looked back at my interviews - I had 6 - YES SIX for my firm, I realised I was relaxed and hadn't done any extra work to read up on the firm. Fact is, I did read up on the firm, but I hadn't thought about it consciously, like: 'they sound good, now I'll read up so I get the job' like some others, I was genuinely interested in working there.

CONGRATS! you made it to the 2nd interview - Typically the 2nd interview is where the final decision is made for the position. The questions will be very similar to the first interview. It's an opportunity for you to "Shine" in front of the manager. Good luck! Don't forget to ask your own questions at the end of the interview: http://get-the-job.com/job-interview-info/interview-questions-to-ask-interviewer/ Also, ask them how soon to you expect to fill the position and when can I expect to hear from you.
