From a Human Resources Coordinator's perspective, I will tell you this: calling to follow-up on an application can either be really beneficial for you or really annoying to the employer. Give at least 2 weeks to follow up. This gives the employer time to actually REVIEW your application. I guarantee, if you call to check your application a few days after applying , they probably haven't had time to really look over it because they are short staffed (which is why they posted the position in the first place) therefore they are going to be annoyed and just give you a general "We are still reviewing applications and we will call you if we are interested" answer. When calling to check on your application, never ask "I want to call and see where my application is in the review process or " I'm calling to check the status of my application". These are always dead end questions that will leave you with a generic answer of " We are still reviewing applications" or "We will call you within 2 weeks to let you know the status". Follow these questions and you're more likely to get more information out of the HR represenative: " I'm calling to inquire about the ___ position and see what your timeline for filling the position is, also are there certain qualifications you're looking for in a candidate (they answer), then you say, well my name is _____ and I strongly believe I have those qualifications for that position, please consider my application during your review process and thank you for your time.?" or " I recently applied for the ___ position online and wanted to know if there were any additonal documents or information you needed from me that could help in the review of my application?" Also, always have the date that you applied for the position, (also the job code, if applicable). This helps HR not have to sift through HUNDREDS of applications looking for your name (this is a headache for them)! Hope this helps! :)

You should call! Who cares if your bothering them, after all, calling them about your application status will really prove that you want the job. If they are still in the hiring process it may even sway their decision. You could send an email if they for some reason didn't pick up the phone. If you really want a job, calling them is the best thing to do if you want them to know you are committed to working there. When they pick up just say "I was calling regarding my application status." Ask them if the position has been filled, and see how it turns out. Good Luck!

You should definitely give them a call, it is a more personal way of showing interest in the position rather than sending an email. I would just say "Hi, I recently put in an application for the position of _____ and I was just wondering what the status was? I am highly interested in this position and would love to work there." Just be honest! Good luck!

I don't like calling I feel like I'm bothering them but really just call ask for who you need to talk to and say "I submitted an application last week for a Volunteer Programs Coordinator and I was just wondering if you had a chance to look at it." I did that yesterday.
