On a gap year and claiming JSA?

    If you're not looking for work you really shouldn't be claiming JSA by all means do voluntary work but look for p/t jobs too that will give you an income to live on, and even contribute to your household's expenses She won't be fined if you live there and don't work but if you claim JSA then she should tell any benefit agency that needs to know of a change in household income Does your mum work, does she claim tax credits ? if she claims tax credits, then she needs to tell them of the change of circumstance of you claiming JSA,so getting a p/t job makes it better for everyone here and means you are also getting work experience in the real world

this seems a bit nuts! You won't be seeking a job, so quite reasonably you don't want to claim job seekers. I believe that you need to be classed as employed, seeking a job or training - so is there any way that the voluntary work can be classed as training? And also, why not just get a part time job anyway, hopefully that won't affect your mum's benefits and will add something to your CV, and something to the coffers.
