It used to be that you could become a police officer without any college, but now most cities, even small ones, require an Associate degree. Although the degree doesn't have to be in criminal justice, if that interests you it would be good. Seems like time and money well spent.

Put it this way: Many police departments won't even consider you unless you have AT LEAST an Associate's Degree in Criminal Justice. My best friend tried and tried to get hired on as a police officer but it wasn't until he got his Associate's in CJ that he got hired by the Alabama State Police.

You could become a police officer with a high school diploma. You'd need to pass physical requirements and psychological test. The process usually takes a year and waiting is the hardest part (according to my friend, who is a police officer). The degree will help you get promoted to be a detective or sgt. Make sure you have a clean background. Drug abuse or criminal history might disqualify you. I am glad you chose Criminal Justice & Good luck! :)
