Legal time for breaks at work?

  • could anyone tell me if the legal requirement for maximum time between breaks at work is 4 or 6 hrs.........???Thanks

  • Answer:

You must have a 20 minute break after 6 hours. If you have a kind employer they can give you a break before then.

Other answers

Health and safety laws state that you must have a break after 6 hours work. However, your company may offer you a break after 4 hours, if this is in their policy.

most companies have policies that cover work hours -- lacking that 6 hours!!!

Do you belong to a union? The union should be able to advise you as this may depend upon the type of work you do. The government department of labour and industry is also a place that should be able to give you this information. The links below may be helpful
