Answer:
If you have no experience or training as a secretary, you might want to focus on a receptionist job in a company that you can move up in. Focus on your communication and people skills. As a sever/hostess you have probably developed fantastic skills in handling people and problems. When you develop your resume don't do a job list resume. Do an accomplishment based resume. Instead of: June 2006- present Applebees anywhere, USA 12345 served customers food in a prompt manner escorted customers to seating area answered questions from callers List: Experience Highlights: Created a warm and friendly environment by consistently provided guest with fantastic service Greeted customers in a timely fashion insuring a pleasant experience Routinely satisfied inquires from callers regarding services Then list your Employment History: Hostess Applebees June 2006-present Hostess/Server TGIF May 2000-May 2006 If you have any volunteer experience that supports your skill development for the position you now want list that too. But don't list hobbies, or clubs that are not professional in nature.

Honestly, don't worry about making the resume too fancy or dramatic. It may catch some attention, but just as many people will be turned off by it. Stick with the standards. For the cover letter, sell yourself in the first paragraph. Assume that HR and managers will only skim it and assume that it's the only thing we'll look at. Same goes for the resume... just make it easy for us to find the stuff we're looking for. Which of your skills match the job posting? Make sure we know that. Good luck.

A resume is a self-promotional document that presents you in the best possible light, for the purpose of getting invited to a job interview. It's not an official personnel document. It's not a job application. It's not a "career obituary"! And it's not a confessional either. Your resume needs to reflect all that you do and have accomplished, so a potential employer sees the value you bring to the table. Employers seek support staffers who are reliable and contribute to the smooth running of operations. A good way to incorporate your achievements is to first describe your job duties in a paragraph, and then provide a bulleted list of your top achievements. With employers receiving hundreds of resumes you must make sure that your resume hooks an employer's attention within a 5-second glance. A great way to do this is to use job titles and skill headings that relate to and match the jobs you want. Many administrative support workers have a hard time detailing their accomplishments. Some say that they just "do their jobs" and that's it. But after you reflect on each position, you will be amazed at how much you've accomplished. Here are a few questions to get you started on your resume - 1. Did you train or orient other staff on office policies and procedures? 2. Did you win any awards, such as "employee of the month" or "perfect attendance"? 3. Did you institute any procedures that improved office operations, enhanced customer service or reduced costs? 4. Did you organize any events or meetings that positively impacted the company? 5. Have you used technology to improve support functions? 6. Did you demonstrate the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment, while maintaining an emphasis on quality? 7. Do you consistently present a professional image, both on the phone and in person, contributing to your company's positive reputation? 8. Did you assist with any special projects, such as creation.

By best reccomendation is -less is more. 1 page cover letter 2-3 paragraphs and 1 page resume. Anything more may not even get read. Be honest in your cover letter and sell yourself (don't lie) but give them something that even if your not the most qualified they will think -i just want to meet this person and then you can win them over face to face. Most important- Clear headings -name, phone number etc and GOOD REFERENCES!!

There are resume books and sites on the internet for resumes. I use Publisher to do mine or Word. You can also pay to have it done. I would suggest you find the job you want and build your resume to fill there needs. If you have never been a secretary and only worked in fast foods it might be good to get some training in typing and filing as well as other needs they may have. Receptionist and Secretary are not that hard a job to get. Usually they just want a pretty girl who can speak intelligently and answer phones for a receptionist. You almost don't need a resume just come in looking hot but professional. have a good business look. Not a slutty look. Just keep it short to the point and focused on what they are looking for.make it easy to read and spell correctly. Use spell check and a dictionary.
u can find online on google for secretary jobs applications letters or introduction letters. to boss try you will find many good on them.
