  One of my favorites is a sunrise egg. Dye the egg yellow, then add a little pink and orange with cotton swabs or cotton balls or a folded tissue to make it look like a sunrise sky. Around the very bottom of the egg, when it's dry, use a black water-based-ink marker (most kids' markers are water-based, permanent ones are NOT) to draw in a simple silhouette of mountains. Add the three crosses if your family is Christian. This one is surprisingly pretty for not being much work. My mom always liked to make color-block eggs. She'd put an egg sideways and kind of diagonally in the dye, only covering 1/3 to 1/2 the egg. Then, she'd dip it sideways and diagonally on the other part of the egg in a complementary color. Finally, she'd put it in a third color that went well with the first two. Orange, red, and yellow work well, as do red, blue, and purple, or blue, green, and yellow. Use a wax crayon -- the clear one they often include or a white one or yellow or any fun color -- to doodle fun designs on your egg. Then, dye it in stripes. Dip 2/3 yellow and then let it dry. Turn it over and dip 2/3 blue. You'll have a blue stripe, a green strip, and a yellow stripe. This also works well with the above-listed combinations, too.
