How to respond to a job referral?

How long does it take for a store to respond to you after you filled out a job application?

  • I just filled out job applications for numerous stores and I am in desperate need of a job. Does anyone know around how long it takes for a company to let you know if you have the job ...show more

  • Answer:

If they are actally hiring and considering you, you should hear back within a week. If they haven't called. They either are not hiring or not interested in you. Sometimes just the act of calling back to check on the status of your application shows that you are interested and not just filling out a bunch of applications. You might then get an interview. Remember getting a job is really selling yourself. Most succesful sales people will call back the potential customer justto make contact and remind them about their product or service.

If they are not interested in you, they will probably never respond, so don't hold your breath. If they are interested, they may contact you within a few days or a few weeks. Most stores have a certain "hiring period" they have to stick to, and they aren't allowed to start reviewing applications until they have finished accepting applications (that gives everyone a fair chance to apply). Then they have to look over the application and pick the top candidates; then they will call you in for an interview.
