Why dont we really emphasise the 'twelve days of xmas' any more?

  Some of the other days are still celebrated in some countries. Epiphany (6th January) always used to be the peak day of the festivities, and in some Catholic countries like spain and Italy it still is. In the UK, although most of the days are not celebrated much now, a lot of people are off work until the new year, and a Christmasy feeling lingers on until then. I personally refuse to consider Christmas as entirely over until Epiphany is over. 7th January used to be known as St Distaff's Day, because it was the day when women resumed their important task of spinning after the Christmas holidays, and I personally intend to slack off somewhat until then, though I am not planning on doing much spinning come 7th January.
