Can't Find A Job, About To Graduate From Nursing School?

See if you can get a job right now as a student nurse extern position in a hospital --- even if only for a few hrs / week. This will help you to get your foot in the door and help you get a RN job there after you graduate and pass the boards. Don't look for these jobs in your local newspaper or online jobboards. Go directly to the hospital website, look under jobs and search if there are any extern jobs opening. You may also see that they have job openings on their own site for graduate nurses. You are so very right that getting a job as a RN has gotten much harder. Hospitals are hiring fewer nurses right now as they also are being greatly affected by our terrible economy and so many people losing their jobs and healthcare benefits. If you can't get a student extern job, go and get experience at a nursing home (at least this will help you gain experience, although not a place you are going to want to continue). You may have to relocate for a really good new graduate nurse position - see if you are open to this, there are still many jobs in certain parts of the country.

Many times especially in major cities, their are health fairs and nursing fairs were they recruit nurses. This might be a good place to start. ( I know in Tampa, they have one every couple months.)

Go west! follow the people moving, there are a lot of needs in western, southern states.
