What are some pros and cons of being a physical therapist?

Should I become a Registered Nurse or an Occupational Therapist... pros and cons please?

  • I am 26 and I have most of the pre requisites done which are basically the same for both programs...what should i do

  • Answer:

It all depends on how you want to spend the rest of your life. I've never really looked into job opportunities for Occupational Therapists, but I do know that RN's in the area I live in (Ohio) have an average salary of $30/hour or more. Occupational Therapists generally work 1st shift, some Occupational Therapists don't have to work weekends, and an Occupational Therapist rarely has to work holidays. Nurses, on the other hand, depending on what you do with your degree (ie: school nurse, Hospital Nurse, ect...), may have to work any shift, work rotating shifts, or be on call. Many nurses work 12- hour days, and very few nurses get weekends and holidays off. The pay may be better, but there are those downsides. If you are interested in being a life saver, then go for your RN, but if you are mainly interested in Patient Care and helping people, you may want to consider becoming an Occupational Therapist.

Nurses are fantastic, so many of them give up so much, solely so that they can look after for other people. In the box below is a website I found with a lot of info about nursing - and a lot of extra professions too.
