  • Answer:

The major bulk of medical transcription work in the U.S. has been greatly curtailed by state privacy laws as it pertains to medical records and patient confidentiality. The vast majority of medical records are kept in recordkeeping departments within medical centers and any transcription work is done "in-house," not "outsourced." So, beware of any offers which promote online in home medical transcription work--there are scammers out there. Good luck!

Wow, I can't even read your question because of the all caps. You need to be skilled in typing, able to type at least 65 wpm using correct sentence structure to be a MT. Never, ever, sign up for an online company with free training, or paid training, but guaranteed a job if you buy all of the software, etc. It's a scam. Go to an accredited school.

If you are talking about TransAm RUN away! The first year, I don't remember my yearly salary but remember starting out at like $8 to $10 an hour. By the end of the first year, I was making around $18 to $20 an hour. This is average for an MT. Yes, one day, technology may take over MT, but it won't be for a lonnnggg time. It wasn't too long ago doctors were using cassette tapes. Most don't like the expensive or time training on the new available technology. Now, will MT EVER be obsolete? Maybe. I trained for MT AND coding/billing so that I'd be cross trained and would able to mesh into another part of the career if things go belly up down the road. The way work is doled it is that you are usually asked how much dictation do you want per day. A new MT should start w/ 30 minutes or less as that will take 4 or more hours at FIRST. That can be increased in a few weeks, months to 45 minutes, then an hour. Then, more if you choose. The name of the game in MT is getting REALLY good at it so that you can type fast and still have a high degree of accuracy. Many MTs work part-time hours but make full-time pay. I know many many many MTs who work 4 hours per day and make $80 to $100 a day. That's not too bad when you are not paying to commute, have time w/ family, have flexibility, can work in your pajamas, etc. You MUST go w/ a good school. I chose one w/ an internship to guarantee my success. There are a lot of jobs out there but they want you to have experience. An internship gives you that experience. Good luck to you.

The medical environment holds a rich vein of different jobs from the obvious nurse and doctor jobs to adminstrative jobs. My sister really wanted to work in this field, but she wasn't certain perfectly what she really wanted to do. Ultimately she gave up after visiting the resource below which showed her how to make cash from Google.
