How do I start off as a CNA?

Do a lot of nurses start out as a CNA and work there way up to RN?

  • Or do they just take the prerequisites and apply to RN program.... because my friend is considering doing the bridge programs(CNA to LPN to RN)...so she can work and go to school ...show more

    There is no bridge program between CNA and LPN. If your friend is aiming to bean RN she should apply directly to an RN program.Getting her CNA in the meantime will give her some hands on experience. Becoming an LPN before getting her RN is not a necessary step.

She can go that route if she likes. But, I think she should cut out the middle man and just go straight for the RN. She can work while she takes the pre-reqs. There are jobs she can hold in a health setting right now, too. And if she is having trouble finding some, maybe she can work elsewhere and volunteer once or twice a week at a hospital.
