What is the life of an RN like?

As an RN, do you have time for a life? As in, kids, and time with your husband?

  • Answer:

May depend on where you work and what the hours are. My fiancee is a Certified Respitory Therapist in the NICU at a major children's hospital. working full time. She works 12 hr shifts (7am-7pm) with 4 days on one week, 3 days on the next, and working every other weekend. She started on night shift right out of school but switched to days once her seniority rose. Nurses are usually part of a union, so the rules will probably be different (my fiancee is not in a union).

Other answers

My wife is an OB nurse. Like her, you'll probably work three 12 hour shifts per week. They make for long days and if you want a family and marriage make sure your husband is a 9-5er or some schedule like that or you guys will just be constantly passing at the door and having to find daycare for kids at odd hours sometimes.
