Nursing. Better pay and better treatment. I have a friend that is a teacher and she hates it. Kids spit on her and there isn't a thing she can do about it.

Teacher: Pros: you get your summers off, good pay depending on the school district/part of the country, excellent retirement benefits if you get with a public school system. Cons: depending on the state you live in, it is extremely difficult to get a job. Nurse: Pros: There is a HUGE nursing shortage right now, and it is not projected to get any better any time soon. Nursing Shortage = easy to get jobs. Con: you may find yourself working extra hours b/c of the shortage. Ultimately, you need to do what you believe will make you happy though.

You could become a nurse and then after you have some years of experience behind you then teach nursing! Best of both worlds!

I have an idea! Go for Nurse Educator! You train as an RN and eventually earn your master's degree in Nursing Education and you can work teaching nursing students at a college or university, you could work for a hospital training the staff nurses and new-hires, etc. The best of both worlds! Since you already hold a bachelor's in another field, look for "accelerated BSN" programs which will only have you taking the nursing courses and earning your BSN at the end. It will take you about 1.5-2 years if you attend full-time, 2-3 if part time. Good luck in your decision!

one thing to consider is that the baby boomers are now in their 50s and 60,s so there will be a greater need for medical personnel. also there are a lot of different jobs you can do as a nurse including personal home care. one thing to watch out for is socialized medicine. this could lower your pay scale and limit you options for choosing a job that you like in the field.

My guess is nursing will be more rewarding. Teachers don't really get to have much of an impact on kids anymore. Talk to people who are doing these jobs and find out what their concerns are.

If I was you I would definitely choose nursing. More pay. Nurses are REALLY needed in this country. It's much more interesting. You can work anytime of day (your choice).

Hey, i guess going for something that you really enjoy would be the best thing! But im currently enrolled in my first year of uni, and know that teachers are becoming "highly sort after" as there are such low numbers of them, so now would be the opportune moment! But i guess also teaching doesnt pay that well, some hairdressers earn more then teachers! Hope this helps!

my mom's going through nursing school right now and all i can tell you is if you choose that. be ready to work. the hours are tough, the homework is nuts and the tests are terrible. unless things come naturally to you or your going to work your *** off, i'd pick teaching.
