  Certifications alone cant get a great job because certifications are meant to complement a 4 year degree or other higher level education. There are only a handful of advanced certifications that you can take without having prior experience or education. The CCIE is one of the few certifications that is worth as much as degree, altho the CCIE does not have any prereqs the test however does cost a couple thousand to take, also Cisco recommends most people to many years of experience, and only about I believe 12000 people in the US have it. The CCIE is a overkill certification that is usually only obtainable by experts. Besides these few exceptions, a certification definitely looks good on a resume but by itself wont be able to secure you any good career.
