    It depends on your state's criminal code. Our state's code says a caller must identify themselves and must not call (text, email, message), back if the recipient tells them not to. There is a separate code regarding making threats (menacing) via telecommunications. Bomb threats are no joke and will be prosecuted. First time convictions for telecommunications harassment is a first degree misdemeanors, which equals a maximum of 180 days jail and or $1,000 fine. I have never seen someone charged for making one prank call that does not make a victim suffer economic harm. Making prank calls to a pizza shop and having pizza delivered to someone that didn't order it = economic harm. The pizza shop will sometimes call the police. Calling a friend up and making funny noises (one call) would not be pursued as harassment.

Sometimes people do it to one another in a joking matter , Just hope that he has no way of finding out who pranked call him , Some bosses can be in a bad mood unfortantely terminate someones job , By being a complete butt hole , But If you two prank each other always keep a record , You never know what goes through someones mind , One time there this way and the next time you are history

prank calling isnt illegal unless you do it way too much, threaten the person like saying im going to kill you, and things like that. but if ur just prank calling all clean you will be fine Make it funny
