Usually more openings on a police department but the police requirements are more stringent and more academic. Firefighters are more physical. Cops usually make more and get more OT. So retirement is usually higher.

It is definitely easier to become a police officer because there are only a few spots open annually for fire fighters. Police officers get more flexible schedules.
