I know this was asked a few months ago here is some info that may be able to help. If you can work towards a degree in CJ it will give you some points on the test and if you ever want to work your way up the ranks you will need that degree. The world of CJ is changing and a degree is almot becoming a must for high ranking officers. You do not need to take the civil service test to be what is called a PI/seasonal/reserve.... every department has a different name. Look into that you can do that while getting your degree. You become a part time police officer that picks up all the shifts some vets on the force dont want or details. Its a great learning experince, I am getting my degree in CJ now and starting the PI academy soon. Its good expereince. Whatever you do dont give up, Law Enforcement field is huge and there is more to it than just local and city there is places across the country. Just build your resume. Hope this helps, good luck
