Why do Retail stores demand experience then employ college/Uni students with no work experience?

    It's a game they play, and it's pretty crooked. When evaluating applicants, their top priority is, 'Which employee will cost the least?' It is actually beneficial to choose an underqualified applicant and turn down the one with a little experience. This is because the underqualified applicant can be paid less money. This applicant is also more likely to make mistakes; therefore, they are more likely to be penalized and denied benefits - saving more money for the company. Underqualified employees are also less likely to meet goals, so they won't qualify for promotions and raises. Wouldn't they make more money if they just had good customer service? No. That's why we don't really see good customer service any more. Electronics stores, clothing stores, airlines - if customers have bad experiences, the alternative is to buy the same product from that store's website. The shift decreases the demand for specialized/ more trained sales staff and replaces them with cheaper/ manual labor werehouse staff.
