I want to be able to support myself as an artist, What can I do to make my living as an artist?

You need to get out there with a few good pieces of your work and go to little galleries and introduce yourself. If they like your work they may exhibit some of your work for free or on commisssion. Some galleries may even host an small exhibit for you if they think others will be interested. If you don't already, have some cards made up, (preferable something you designed yourself). Get your art on a website, . You never know when someone might commission you for something. But they have to see your work. Good luck!

To make the best suggestions i would have to see your work, but i can definately say you should look for holes in the market place, and for sure change your stratigy, if it was working to your satisfaction you wouldnt be asking for help, if you do any computor work i would suggest getting a hold of some web page designers and offering your services for making logos and such for companies that they are designing a page for and such, thats where most my knowlege is with art stuff, if you would like email me some pics of your work and ill do my best to suggest anything that might be helpful to you, [email protected]

I am an Artist so I realt totally with you. I'll tell you what I do; Networking is the answer. Surround yourself with those into the Arts, people who are already established. Go to art shows, openings, meet them all, get business cards, give them away, get into a community art show yourself, get a gallery by going in with your portfolio and showing them what you have. I never needed a business plan. I am a good salesman and good in marketing, so this helps. Also I teach Art from my home, which supplements my income and I only need to do it part time. So if I can do it, you can too.

i would TOTALLY TRY EBAY!!! if youre not already signed up, its super easy. i think u need 10 positive feedback to become a seller. if u do not have the min. req'd feedback, buy a few very cheap things, maybe even art supplies to build up the feedback so u can start selling your artwork. my husband and i have bought tons of things on ebay including art work. i would give it a try. you could also place an add in the local paper for an art show and get some of ur stuff together and set up a lil something in ur front yard or something like that. you could rent a tent and have a friend or fam mem help u out. you can also look into where local craft fairs are in your area where u may be able to sell your work. if ur still strapped 4 cash with those ideas you could always start ur own lil art program in the summer teaching kids, adults-whoever- your specialty and with the $ from that u may be able to persue your real dream and hire someone to market for you. its all doable, just be patient!
