How can I stop chewing my nails?

I've had the same problem, I've been chewing and biting my nails for as long as I can rememeber, and I've recently stopped. Everytime I feel like chewing/biting my nails, I chew gum, that way I don't go after my nails. I also put nail polish and I constantly remind myself that there are gross germs underneath my fingernails. So far, it has worked because it's been 4 months since I've bitten/chewed my nails, it's true I relasp once in a while, but then I just start over and I go longer without biting my nails.

I would try fake nails :-) And if you don't like those, try sitting on your hands every time you want to bite them...or maybe it's because your nervous which is what makes you bite them, so try chewing on some gum instead of your nails. -amy

IT`S PROBABLY BECAUSE YOUR NERVOUS AND YOU DON`T REALLY KNOW THAT YOU ARE, IT CAN ALSO BE SINCE YOU WERE YOUNG YOU DID`NT STOP SO, YOU GOT IN THE HABIT OF DOING IT.....I WOULD SUGGEST YOU WEAR GLOVES....OR MASKING TAPE AROUND YOUR HANDS, IN TILL YOU STOP THIS ERG THIS SHOULD HELP!.....THE MASKING TAPE WOULD PROBABLY LOOK LESS WEIRD ESPECIALLY THAT WARM WEATHER IS KICKING IN...THE MASKING TAPE WOULD JUST LOOK LIKE A SPORT REASON FOR WEARING THEM LIKE BOXING OR WRESTLING....BUT, ALSO TRY YOUR HARDEST TO THINK ABOUT SOMETHING THAT INTERESTS YOU! AND DON`T CHEW GUM....UNLESS YOU WANT A WHOLE BUNCH OF CAVITIES TO DEAL WITH!
