How to get an interview at Macy's?

Interview at MACY's?

  • tomorrow i have the group interview at macy's and im wondering if anybody knows any tips on how to do well in the interview and get the job.

  • Answer:

I went to that group interview. Do you happen to be from San Diego or So Cal area? Anyways, don't get too excited. What's going to happen is they are going to go over with you and the people in the group the expectations of good customer service and who they are at Macy's. (They recently merged with Bloomingdale's...just a little bit of useful info for you) You'll fill out some paperwork, and they will call you back each individually for a personal interview. If they like you, you get called again by the department manager from the department you'd like to work for. They then interview you, and if they like what they see, you get called again, or, offered a job. Just use your common sense when answering their questions. They will ask you a lot of cust service stuff more than anything else. And also about your work ethic. How many times were you late, missed work on your last job, etc. The reason why I say don't get too excited is that I was called back. I was interviewed by the lingerie dept. manager. She then had me interview with the security department, and after that called me to ask me to come in for a third interview with someone else. Three friggin' interviews! Three separate trips. Did I get the job....? No, I didn't. Be careful, and don't get your hopes up. From my experience it's hard to get a job there and I have tons of customer service experience. I wish you luck though.

Having at least 1 good question to ask them is good. It makes you stand out. Something like, 'Do you try to promote from within? What percentage of management in THIS store was promoted from within - and what percentage were outside hires? But that might not be a good question for the job you are applying for. Good luck.

I've never interviewed at Macy's before. However, I can give you a few very simple interview tips. You're probably going to be nervous - I know I always am, no matter how qualified I am for a job. But when you're asked a question, look your interviewer straight in the eyes. If you can't quite muster that, look between their eyes, at the bridge of their nose. Be confident. You are qualified, and you know what you're talking about! Finally, treat everyone with respect. You may be competing with a lot of other people for a job, but courtesy counts for a lot. Maybe imagine yourself already working in the job that you're going for, and handle everything as though you've already landed the job. Good luck!! I'm sure you'll do great!

Go on their website and learn as much as you can about the company. Get business information. Have some good questions for them. Be yourself. Be enthusiastic and if it is appropriate when it is done as what the next step is.

WHAT WILL THEY NEED TO GET YOU? Take the dominant position. You are not just another applicant. You are special and you will stand out from all the rest. Do what the others have said: Ask questions, dress professional, be confident, but at the end of the day always remember there are other places to work. Get more interviews and have 2 or more businesses offer you a job and feel how great it is to be in control!

Keep eye contact but don't stare. Don't fidget, be polite, professional and answer questions to the best of your knowledge. Be confident and thank them for their time at the end when you shake their hand. Dont' just answer "yes" or "no," add a comment. I hope I helped, these things are all pretty much common sense. Good luck!
