It is not based on any specific episode. It was done as a tribute to the show. It is scary that Disney made a Tower of Terror movie in 1997 featuring Steve Guttenburg. The movie was actually made based off the ride and not vice-versa. It was one of the early attempts at making attractions into films. Not as successful as say Pirates of the Caribbean.
