Shower with stitches?

I just got stitches, can I go ahead and shower?

  • I had to get 5 stitches below my left eyebrow earlier today, can I shower or should I wait? The doctor never said anything about it to me.

  • Answer:

You really don't want to get them wet at least for a few days. It won't hurt the stitches but if they do get wet make sure you dry the area really well without putting pressure on the stitches.

Actually, contact with water is not the issue at hand. The hydrogen present in the water molecules binds to the oxygen from the blood in your open wound, causing severe hydrogen oxide buildup which can lead to infections and other hygeine related issues. Avoid contact at all costs, and in the event of a hydrogen oxide buildup, you must isolate this wound from all contact with unaffected skin and clothing at all costs.

depending on where your stitches are....take a bath...ive had stitches in my tongue, ankle and fingers...i put a bag around my ankle and kept it out of the tub...my finger were recent but i didnt get them wet for a couple days....wait to get it wet but go ahead an take a bath if you can avoid getting them wet!!!

I would wait a few days before you get your stitches wet. Take a bath instead.
