Conan O'brien to take over Tonight Show? What was NBC thinking?

He must of done really well in the ratings, but he is not someone I could view on a regular basis.

the reason they done it is cause it was 5 years ago and leno on show 5 years ago said that he would be 59 in 09 and that carson is the only one who could do it in his 60's so leno and nbc are respecting carson also 5 years ago nbc did not know how relevent leno will be and face it the key raitngs for ads is 18-49 leno is older so the younger crowd will not be watching him as much as they would watch conan he is younger so nbc probaly got a lot of advertisers threating to pull ads away or not pay as much if leno stayed so lots of pollitics behind closed doors there not going to give the show to letterman after the leno letterman debacle there not going to give it to anyone else on another network they want give the tonight show to sombody with no experice so natural to choose conan he gots experinece they know how he works etc also 5 years ago leno probaly didnt know how long he could go on and whats worse then being burnt out putting a nightly show on now he has regrets but too much legal tape to go thru

I can't understand why this is even happening in the first place. The Tonight Show lost all of its glory after Johnny Carson left. It makes absolutely no sense at all for guys like Conan to leave their own successful shows, in their own niches, with their own fan bases loyal to those shows in favor of filling the seat on The Tonight Show. The only thing I can see is that it's a bigger audience, which will eventually mean more money for Conan in some way. But Jay's audience and Conan's audience are completely different. Conan won't be able to be Conan an hour earlier. And Conan and Ferguson have their own unique shows. Letterman won't be around much longer, so that slot will be open soon. I like them all for different reasons, but I don't see why there's any need for Leno to be replaced. Leno was looking ahead to retirement and played the card too early. Why not let him play it out like Carson if the ratings are still there?

I totally agree with you,, I have tried to watch Conan several times and I just don't get him.. At least Leno will still be on although earlier. Looks like I'll be switching back to Letterman for late night viewing.
