What can I do to stop spam in my Yahoo email?

    My friend Alan, who is the Community Computer Maven, gave me a tip about spam. Apart from the 'setting's and marking spam carefully, so it gets directed to the spam box, He said, "Never send an email with more than one address in the 'send' line. Always use the BCC line for extra addresses." He said the reason you do that it because there are organisations and individuals who make money by doing something called 'data mining.' They hack the internet on a regular basis and they look for letters that either have a long list of personal addresses or letters that keep getting forwarded and get an accumulation of addresses, because each sender doesn't bother to wipe out the previous addresses before sending. If I get an email and I'm asked to 'send it on' the first thing I do, when the 'compose new page' comes up, is scan down and delete all previous addresses.

i agree with gee bee - everyone of my e-mails that contains a group list has been mined, that's outgoing and incoming while the spam box mixes with the inbox apparently undeterred by the differences and preferences.

Hi...it could be your Yahoo mail settings. Click on "options" in the right hand corner of Y mail....and then click on "spam" on the left. There you have options. I have my spam mail eliminated immediately. I still get spam in my regular box...maybe two a day. I click on it it and then hit spam. I hope this helps. M

Frustrating isn't it DeeJay, I know as I get tons of the stuff too. Yes my name and details are featured which always makes me wonder where they originate from. Why someone out there in the great blue yonder thinks I need sexual enhancing gadgets and pills I just don't know. I suppose I should be happy that they are going straight into spam so all I have to do his hit the 'delete all' box and that's it.....job done.

Go to "options" it the upper right then "mail options" then "spam" and set your preferences there.'

I suppose you wouldn't want to do it too often, but I just left one email addy and started a new one once. I have one yahoo addy just for Commercial stuff. It's my addy for fb, all my online shopping, I try to not give out my other gmail addy. So I have lots of spam in the yahoo one, and none in the gmail one. I also have a document on my computer where i have all my passwords written down in case I forget. ha in case?

Yes, I still get them too. Offers from a canadian pharmacy, viagra, etc., and some russian dating agency with girls called Natalya who seek sexy young men. They would know I was neither if they saw me in my long johns in cold weather! My index finger and the delete button are now good friends.

Hi. I use a chrome extension called Blocksender, www.blocksenderapp.com for blocking. And it works really well for situations such as this.
