What is your favorite childhood memory? Why?

What is your favorite memory from your childhood days growing up?

  • what comes to mind from your early years?

  • Answer:

I enjoyed the simple pleasures of living on the family farm in Mississippi. Those were such carefree days. As I look back at it with rose colored glasses I realize my friends and I didn't need a lot of "things" to have a good time. None of us had a lot of toys so we improvised. Plus from an early age we were expected to work, which we didn't mind at all because we were contributing to the welfare of the family. My first job was carrying water out to my Dad and Grandfather who were working in the fields. Then as I got bigger I rounded up the cattle and drove them back to the barn. Then when I was six I had to help out with picking cotton. Back then we actually got half a day off from school to help out getting the cotton crop in. I will never forget the first fifty cents I earned from my Uncle in the cotton fields. I was so proud of that fifty cent piece. That was the first time I ever earned money in my life. We had clean air to breathe, clean water to drink, good food, grown right on the farm, to eat and a house to live in that my Granddaddy built. Then we moved to the big city of Detroit where my Dad got a job working at the River Rouge Plant for Ford. And an idealic Tom Sawyer-Norman Rockwell life ended for ever. When Dad finally sold the farm, which had been in the family for generations, it broke my heart.

Playing games like "red rover" or "sardines" with my sister and cousins. Or causing trouble around the town, either by climbing trees and throwing stuff at each other, or attaching a skateboard to a bike and going down the hill outside my house. :)

favourite memory is from when I was maybe 3 years old. My brothers and Dad had just left for school and it was a beautiful spring morning. I can remember the air smelling like fresh cut grass and the sun shining brightly. It was already very warm, just a perfect day. My Mom was holding my little brother, he was only a few months old and we were sitting on the front porch. My Mom had given me a bubble maker and I was blowing bubbles for my little bro and he was gurgling and laughing. I remember feeling so safe, secure and utterly content. answer mine plzzz http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=As0_qCZO.j1Pajukn8qTnD_sy6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20110320065456AAZHDF2

When my dad (who died last summer from cancer) would take me and my sister to the park to let us play there while he would sit and read a book. Afterwards, he would treat us to snacks and then we'd walk home.
