My friend offered me to go surfing with him tomorrow but I am a bad swimmer and we are surfing in 50 feet water. how do i learn how to swim in one day? I am definitely surfing tomorrow

Answer:
There is no way the water is 50 feet deep where you are surfing. If this person has no idea what they are doing and not next to you the whole time or if they start to wander off and catch their own waves just paddle in to shore and call a surf instructor for lessons. I have taught adults that didn't know how to swim and they did great. ; )

Firstly, Regular Surfers do not surf in 50ft deep water, Its physically impossible for an average wave wave to break In that deep water, its not shallow enough. Only big waves can break in that deep water (e.g jaws, mavericks, nazare etc). Read this: It will explain everything. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Breaking_wave I'm assuming your a beginner so I would strongly advice not to go surfing even though your probably not going to be going past waist deep water (I hope!?) Surfing is an ocean sport. if you cannot swim, what's going to happen if you get pulled out by a rip current? Its very very unlikely you will learn to swim in a day. Unless your friend is a trained lifeguard, say no. If your desperate to try surfing before you learn to swim, take a surf lesson from a trained lifeguard and surf instructor and tell him/her your not a strong swimmer and they will keep an eye on you. In the meantime, get into the swimming pool and start taking lessons for the safety of you and people around you.

How stupid can get? Waves don't break in water that is 50 feet deep. and nobody should even think about surfing if they are not good swimmers. It is a matter of common sense. And the chicita who says she is a life saving champion would know that you can't possibly be a "great surfers who could not swim that well". There are too many phonies on this site.

Firstly the water will not be 50 ft deep, Waves are made by storms at sea pushing large volumes of water towards shore, a wave is created when the ocean bottom rises fro deep to shallow quickly. this pushes the water up and makes it topple over. So trust me the water will not be that deep. I recommend to anyone that if they enter the water, especially the surf that they should be a strong swimmer. but that being said i have known some great surfers who could not swim that well, but for me safety comes first and unless you are a good swimmer then you belong on the sand.

No, you can't.

Since you say you are going anyway. Here is a suggestion. Make sure the Leash is tight. As long as the leash is good you can just pull the board to you. If you plan on surfing more you must learn to swim cause you are going to end up having to swim. Be careful and have fun!
